ORBELUS ORGANIC WINERY JSC

ORBELUS  ORGANIC  WINERY  JSC  was created in 2000. Its aim is to develop  projects in the  field of organic agriculture and production.  Today, the major focus of our activities  is  to   produce  organic  wines  from organically  grown   grapes  in  accordance  with  the  EC  requirements.

Orbelus: The name of  our  wines  Orbelus was chosen as the area were the vineyards arе planted  was known in the ancient Thracian time as Orbelus.

Estate Vineyards: Orbelus  have  for  the  time  being  25-hectares of vineyards. The  vineyards are located in Bulgaria’s Melnik region, which lies along the Struma River in the south  west of the country. The first vineyards were planted in 2006. The main grapes grown are for  red wine and include the Bulgarian varieties Melnik 55 , Shiroka Melnishka Loza  and  Rubibn as  well  the local white variety Misket of Sandanski. The Melnik   grape is unique to this part of  Bulgaria and  the  world . It  is  rare , grows  only  in  this  part  of  the  world  and  is  one of  the  most  exquisite  grape  varieties  known  today. It  taste  was  famous  once  all  over  Europe.  Orbelus has also planted the French varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache Noir, Petit Verdot  plus Primitivo. Orbelus also has some quantities of  Mourvèdre, and   Marselan for red wines, plus Viognier, Chardonney  and Pinot Gris for white wines.
